Biological invasion poses threats to nature, human health; global economic cost of over $423 billion annually: Report

A new report by the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) states that more than 37,000 alien species have been introduced globally, with over 3,500 of these being harmful invasive species. The report highlights the major threats that invasive species pose to nature, economies, food security, and human health, resulting in an annual global economic cost of over $423 billion in 2019.
