India plans to install an early warning system at high-risk glacial lakes in the Himalayas next year after deadly floods killed at least 60 people. There are 56 at-risk glacial lakes in India, with the urgency to monitor them increasing after Lhonak Lake burst its banks two weeks ago. State governments will recommend which lakes should be prioritized for monitoring systems, with the aim of setting up some by next year.
