Climate crises drove 27 million children into hunger in 2022: charity

Extreme weather events in vulnerable countries drove 27 million children into hunger last year, a 135% increase over 2021. Children accounted for nearly half of the 57 million people facing acute food insecurity due to extreme weather. Countries in the Horn of Africa, particularly Ethiopia and Somalia, were most affected. Save the Children called on leaders at the COP28 climate summit to recognize children as agents of change and address other causes of food insecurity such as conflict and weak health systems.
