The European Union has reached a deal to impose methane emissions limits on oil and gas imports from 2030. This law will require importers to prove that their fuels meet a methane intensity limit. The deal also introduces new requirements for the oil, gas, and coal sectors to measure, report, and verify methane emissions. It obliges producers to find and fix leaks and limits cases of flaring and venting. The law will now go to the European Parliament and EU countries for final approval.
