'King of Lake Ohrid': The fight to save a Balkan trout

The Lin Hatchery in Pogradec, Albania, is working to release the final batch of newly spawned "Ohrid Trout" into Lake Ohrid. The trout, an indigenous species, has faced threats from habitat destruction, overfishing, and pollution. Albania and North Macedonia have signed agreements to protect the trout's survival. The hatchery has increased operations to produce 1.7 million hatchlings this year. The delicate process involves collecting and fertilizing eggs, monitoring oxygen levels and water temperature, and transporting the young fish back to the lake. However, addressing the underlying issues is crucial for preserving the trout's population.
